Nolah Nurture 8" Kids Mattress - Detailed Review & Best Coupon

Daniel Galle and Anna Hjoellund founded Nolah Sleep in 2014 with the goal to bring high tech science to mattress development.  With the introduction of revolutionary sleep materials, Nolah quickly became one of the most sought after online mattresses.

The Cover

The Nurture starts with a 100% certified ultra soft cotton cover.  Cotton is one of the softest, most breathable and most comfortable fabrics available. It’s cool, wicks moisture and, better still, is more sustainable.  The cover is followed by a layer of Nolah’s organic wool for a completely chemical-free retardant layer.  Additionally, wool is naturally antimicrobial and wicks away moisture providing freshness and natural cooling properties.   

Comfort Layer

Plush Side: On the softer side, gel memory foam provides soothing relief for growing bones and joints. With a 4-5/10 feel, this side contours more than the other. When your kid wants cozier cushioning, flip to this side.

Firm Side: On the firm side, a layer of foam gives this side of the mattress a 6-7/10 feel. It’s denser and bouncier than the foam on the flip side, making it ideal for kids when they need a more responsive sleep surface.

Support System

Sandwiched in between the foam layers is the 6″ HDMax Tri-Zone Coil System. These coils are individually wrapped to mitigate any motion transfer within the mattress.  This combination allows for exceptional reactivity and motion isolation, minimizing sleep disturbance.  Nolah divided the spring support system into 3 zones to enable greater support where it counts (especially the lumbar region).  Additionally, Nolah reinforces the edge with higher caliber perimeter coils to create greater edge support along the sides, head and foot of the bed.  The result?  A solid support system that will last for years  to come and everything you would expect from a luxury mattress.

Protecting it All

Encasing it all is a full height extra durable border fabric to help increase edge support.  And, four high grade handles to assist in rotation and transfer.  These are not decorative, the actually help you move the the mattress.  Finally, Nolah added a non-slip bottom to prevent any unnecessary movement of the mattress once it’s in place.

Tufting

Tufting is the process where the individual parts of the mattress are either sewn or glued together to prevent slippage.  In the Nurture’s case, Nolah chose top tufting where the top cover is sewn into the foam layers underneath.  The Nurture is not a perfectly flat bed; there are minor tufts on the top.  

Does the Nolah Nurture Sleep Cool?

YES!  We found Nurture to offer a neutral, comfortable temperature control.  Yes!  Nurture has several mechanisms to give you a cool, dry and comfortable night sleep (even for furnace sleepers).  Feeling cool at night is all about feeling dry.  The Nurture starts with the ultra wicking cotton cover.  This is followed by the wool which not only wicks moisture, but they improve airflow.  Gel foam pulls heat away from the body.  And finally, the hybrid has springs which further promote air flow.  The result, a cool dry sleep all night long.

How about Edge Support?

The Nurture offers very good edge support.  Nolah added reinforced perimeter springs to strengthen the corners and edges.   The extra durable border fabric further keeps all the parts, reducing any sagging.  Even though the Nurture has several inches of gel foam comfort layer, you will be able to sleep comfortably all the way to the edge of the mattress without worry of “slipping off”!

Will the Nolah Nurture Stand the Test of Time?

Nurture is a very high quality mattress and  Nolah spends a tremendous amount of time stress testing the materials to get the most out of the springs and foam. The dense transition foam is more durable than regular  gel-foams. The result?  A long lasting bed that can support well over 1,000lbs.  

Although it is designed for kids, the Nurture 10″ is close in construction to Nolah’s Natural 11″ mattress.  The primary differences are that the Nurture is flippable, it has a thinner gel comfort layer (2″ instead of 3″) and only comes in Twin, TXL and Full sizes.  Price wise, they are fairly close.  The Nurture 8″ is definitely considered a premium kids mattress.  Next we will discuss the two different sides of the flippable Nurture kids mattress.

Nurture 8″ Soft Side (5 on the firmness scale)

The Nurture is a true Multi Sleeper designed to support all sleeping styles, side, stomach, back and any combination therein.  Immediately your child will feel the responsiveness of the foam as well as the support from the robust springs.  Almost immediately they will feel the support of the zoned transition foam on your lumbar and the coil system begins to push back and cradle their body.  But after a moment, they will feel the ultra-comfortable wool layers begin to conform and cradle to the body.    

Side sleepers will feel the plush relief on their shoulders and hips.  Stomach sleepers will also find that the firm gel foam is supportive as it comfortably cradles them.  They will feel pressure relief, but will not be sacrificing the support that they need to keep spinal alignment.  Although it’s the soft side, they will sleep more “on top” of the mattress rather than in the mattress.  There is minimal sink. 

Nurture will will be comfortable for sleepers up to 175 lbs.  For everyone else, this all natural comfortable and very supportive mattress is worth the investment.

Nurture 8″ Firm Side (7 on the firmness scale)

Where the Nurture Soft is a true Multi Sleeper, the Firm is geared more towards stomach and back sleepers.  Immediately they will feel the responsiveness of the foam as well as the support from the robust springs.  But after a moment, the ultra-comfortable wool layers will begin to conform and cradle their body.    

Side sleepers will feel some relief on their shoulders and hips, but really the firm side will appeal to back and stomach.  They will definitely sleep more “on top” of the mattress rather than in the mattress.  There is minimal sink. 

Nurture will will be comfortable for sleepers up to 175 lbs.  That said, extremely light side sleepers (under 90 lbs) may not get the proper amount of pressure relief and should flip over to the softer side of the mattress.  For everyone else, this all natural comfortable and very supportive mattress is worth the investment.

All Nolah mattresses come in a box. It’s crazy to think that a Nurture 10″ model with powerful springs and dense foams can be compressed, but it can.  And, with no sacrifice to quality and durability.  Some people ask if compressing the springs will hurt their integrity.  Nothing could be farther from the  truth.  Springs are actually shipped compressed all over the world (to conserve space).  The springs integrity is damaged if they are pulled excessively or bent out of position.  But, the way Nolah compresses its mattresses, they keep their shape and strength.  The box arrives via Fedex from their Phoenix, AZ factory.  Simply unbox the mattress.  Rest it on the bed frame and remove the plastic wrapping and the bed will decompress before your eyes.  You can begin sleeping on the bed and enjoying a restful night sleep that same day.

Nolah offers a 120 night trial period.  You may either return it for a 100% refund, or exchange it for a different mattress and pay/refund any price difference.  Here’s how the system works:

1. The trial begins when you RECEIVE the mattress (the FedEx delivery day).
