We’re Here to Help!
We love the All American story of Brooklyn Bedding. A true entrepreneur with grit, vision and a lot of help along the way, John Merwin formed what is now Brooklyn Bedding in 1995. Not in Brooklyn, NY as one might think, but in Phoenix, Arizona (he named the company after his daughter, Brooklyn). Originally a mattress liquidation business, it soon turned to building a mattress and listing it on Amazon, just to see what might happen. Well, it took off and John launched Brooklynbedding.com. A pioneer in many respects, John was one of the original visionaries of a bed-in-a-box mattress packaging and delivery system. John wanted to ensure his beds were known for high quality at a price everyone could afford. Therefore, he took the entire manufacturing process in-house. To this day, all Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are made start-to-finish in their Phoenix factory; many on the assembly team have been making mattresses by hand for decades. They have earned a reputation not only for making one of the leading mattresses in the industry, but for quick delivery, superior customer support and one of the best trial and warranties in the industry.
As a testament to Brooklyn’s commitment to quality, Brooklyn Bedding now manufactures many of the top private label mattress brands on the market. Brooklyn lists 6 models on their website, but they also manufacture brands such as Plank (extra firm) Plank Luxe and Titan (for the larger sleeper). Now 25 years old, Brooklyn is showing no signs of slowing down – in the last two years, Brooklyn Bedding has doubled its production capacity. They have recently completed the buildout of a new 600,000-square-foot factory in Phoenix where even more mattresses can be handcrafted, on demand, and shipped direct to customers’ doors.
Let’s have a closer look at the Sedona Elite’s materials before hopping in the its comfort style.
Sedona Elite Construction & Materials
Cooling Gel Coating – The cooling experience begins as soon as you touch the GlacioTex+ cover. Brooklyn applied cool-to-the-touch phase change material (PCM). PCM are heat activated gel microbeads. Generally, our skin is 91 degrees, however our ideal sleeping skin temperature is 88 degrees. When they come into contact with a temperature greater than 88 degrees they liquify and activate. Gel absorbs heat, so you get that cool-to-the touch feeling. When the temperature reaches 88 degrees, the beads solidify and lessen the heat draw. This helps the Sedona Elite mattress regulate your skin temperature at the optimal level – making it very popular with hot sleepers. The weave is also ultra breathable and highly wicking so you stay cool and dry all night long.
Alright, there’s a lot of cooling tech in the comfort layer, so we’re going to lay it out as detailed as possible.
Copper Infused – In addition to the PCM in the Cover, Brooklyn infused Copper into the top comfort foam layer. Why? Two reasons. First, copper is highly conductive so it works harder to draw heat away from the body. Second, it is highly antimicrobial, 1,000 times more antimicrobial than stainless steel. This bacteria killer will keep your bed feeling fresh and smelling clean longer.
Micro Coils – Underneath the copper infused comfort foam. Brooklyn chose a layer of conforming and supportive micro coils. Micro coils are small springs that aid in additional contouring to the body. Micro coils further aid a cool night sleep as air flows freely through them allowing warm air to escape.
Dynamic Transition Foam: Brooklyn’s dynamic transition is a key component of both the comfort and support of the Sedona Elite Hybrid mattress. Where the copper infused memory foam and micro coils bring you in, the transition foam is more responsive and adds support. The dynamic nature of the foam allows it to spring back so you do not get an overly sinky feeling when lying on the mattress. In addition, the foam is zoned to provide additional support where it counts, in the lumber and hip region. The result is exceptional pressure relief that can help reduce joint and muscle pain. Additionally, the cooling gel infused within the transition foam pulls heat away from the body, keeping you cool all night long. The open cell structure and overall design enables it to have higher water absorption and greater moisture wicking. This engineering allows moisture to be released from the mattress more quickly, also contributing to a cooler, more comfortable sleep. You’ll have 1.5″ of ultra comfortable transition foam on the Sedona Elite.
The Sedona Elite’s support system employs up to 1,032 individually encased 8” Ascension coils directly underneath the transition foam. Brooklyn individually wraps each coil to mitigate any motion transfer in the mattress. This combination allows for exceptional reactivity and motion isolation, minimizing sleep disturbance. Brooklyn divided the spring support system into 3 zones to enable greater support where it counts (especially the lumbar region). Additionally, Brooklyn reinforced the edge with higher caliber perimeter coils to create greater edge support along the sides, head and foot of the bed. The result? A solid support system that will last for years to come.
Bottom Support Layer
Underneath the Ascension coils, Brooklyn lays 1″ of highly responsive foam to add further compression support to the mattress and absorb any additional motion.
Tufting is the process where the individual parts of the mattress are either sewn or glued together to prevent slippage. In the Sedona Elite’s case, it is a flat bed and the weave is stretched over the foam layers. To keep the bed as flat as possible, the Sedona Elite is not tufted.
Does Sedona Elite Sleep Cool?
YES! We found Sedona Elite to offer cool to neutraltemperature control. Being cool at night is all about being dry. Sedona Elite accomplishes this through the GlacioTex+, multiple gel layers and finally the breathability offered by the dual core spring base:
- The cover wicks away moisture and enables you to directly feel the cooling properties.
- The gel infused and responsive comfort layer pulls heat from the body (and doesn’t return it!)
- As the mattress is a hybrid, air is able to flow and circulate in-between the dual coil system
Final result – Sedona Elite will keep you cool and dry throughout the night allowing your body to get the rest it deserves.
How about Edge Support?
The Sedona Elite offers excellent edge support. Brooklyn added ribbing around the edge to strengthen the corners and edges. At the end of the day, the Sedona Elite comes with 4.5″ of contouring gel foam. That is going to have some give once you get out to the edge of the bed. The coils help, but if you need significant edge support, there may be a little too much sag on the soft and medium.
Endurance Testing – Will Sedona Elite Stand the Test of Time?
Sedona Elite is Brooklyn’s most luxurious mattress. Dubbed the Hotel Bed, Brooklyn spends a tremendous amount of time stress testing the materials to ensure that reputation. The result? A long lasting bed that can support well over 900lbs.
Sedona Elite Hybrid Comfort Style
A Perfect Medium
One look at the Sedona Elite Hybrid and you know that you’ll be sleeping on a luxurious yet very supportive mattress for many years to come. To to match the look with the feel, Brooklyn selected finest materials that would fit every body – and make a perfect medium.
The Sedona Elite is a true luxury multi-sleeper designed to support all sleeping styles, side, stomach, back and any combination therein. From the moment you touch the cooling cover you feel your skin temperature drop. The three inches of comfort foam begin to mold to the unique pressure points of your body. However, you do not get that “quicksand” feeling as in most memory foam mattresses. The Sedona Elite is quick responding, thanks to the micro coils transition foam that fill in body impressions quickly as you move about.
Immediately you will feel the significant support offered by the zoned 8″ coils to aid in proper spinal alignment. You will feel substantial lumbar support without sacrificing the comfort.
There will be a touch of sink, just enough so that your are not “in” the mattress, but enough that your are not “on-top” as well.
The sweet spot for weight is up to 250 (especially for side sleepers). Above that weight, you’ll start to lose the benefit of the pressure relief from the gel as your body rests more on the springs. At that size, you might consider Brooklyn’s Titan Luxe mattress, made specifically for the larger sleeper.
- On Sandman’s Firmness Scale, we rate Medium a 5.5 out of 10.
- This is a multi-sleeper, designed for all sleeping styles.
- The significant cooling features and air flow will keep you cool and dry all evening long.
- Edge support is excellent – the Sedona Elite comes with two coil systems and reinforced edges. Sleep all the way to the edge – no sliding off here!
All Sedona Elite comfort levels have very good motion isolation. Simply put, you will rarely feel your partner move at night. Whether they are a toss and turner, an early riser or using the facilities, it’s not the bed that will wake you. The high density gel foam by its very nature does not transfer motion. It absorbs energy. Any motion might come from the springs below, but the pocket coil system separates the springs further isolating any motion transfer. If you need total motion isolation, then look more towards the luxury all foam mattresses. However, the design and attention to detail make the Sedona Elite as close to no motion as possible.
How Does the Sedona Elite Mattress Arrive?
All Brooklyn beds come in a box. It’s crazy to think that a king size Sedona Elite with powerful springs, dense foams can be compressed, but it can. And, with no sacrifice to quality and durability. Some people ask if compressing the springs will hurt their integrity. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Springs are actually shipped compressed all over the world (to save space). The springs integrity is damaged if they are pulled excessively or bent out of position. But, the way Brooklyn compresses its mattresses, they keep their shape and strength. The box arrives via Fedex or UPS from their Phoenix, AZ factory. Simply unbox the mattress. Rest it on the bed frame and remove the plastic wrapping and the bed will decompress before your eyes. You can begin sleeping on the bed and enjoying a restful night sleep that same day.
What’s Brooklyn's Return Policy? Can I exchange my Sedona Elite for either another model?
Brooklyn offers a 120 night trial period. You can either return it for a 100% refund, or you can adjust the comfort level with a free mattress topper during the trial period. You may also exchange it for a different mattress and pay/refund any price difference. Here’s how the system works:
- The trial begins when you RECEIVE the mattress (the FedEx delivery day).
- You can sleep on it for 120 nights. As there can be a slight break-in period, Brooklyn asks that you not initiate a return during the first 30 days.
- If it’s not the mattress of your dreams, reach out Brooklyn at [email protected], via phone, email or chat (on their website), provide your name and order number and let them know if you wish to RETURN or EXCHANGE. Either way, there are no questions asked!
- Returns: In most cases, Brooklyn will request that you have the mattress donated. Many of the charity foundations that are available offer a local pickup service. In the event that you are having trouble getting this coordinated, please let Brooklyn know and they will offer additional assistance. Once donated, you will receive a full refund. If you are having trouble, reach out to Brooklyn and they will be happy to assist.
- Full 100% refunds (no fees!!) are issued within 3-4 business days of the pick-up.
- Exchanges: For an exchange, Brooklyn will send the new mattress to your home BEFORE the old one is removed so you’ll never be without a bed to sleep on.
Brooklyn doesn’t stop there! After the trial period ends, Brooklyn offers a 10 year warranty.
